Plan Limits, Billing & Add-Ons Guide
Plans, how you're charged and renewed, add-ons, message packs, and what happens if a payment fails.
Plan Tiers
Domainchat offers five plans tailored to different business sizes. All limits (messages, storage, agents) are shared across every agent within your workspace — not per-agent.

- How a message is measured: every message counts — the visitor's question and your agent's reply each count as 1 message. One conversation turn (question + answer) therefore uses 2 messages of your quota. This applies to both the monthly plan quota and purchased message packs.
- Storage is measured by extracted text content size (KB / MB), not raw file size. Cleaned text after PDF parsing, boilerplate removal, and formatting is what counts.
- All limits are shared across every agent in your workspace — not per-agent. One workspace = one message pool.
- Annual billing saves 20% on base plans (billed as one yearly charge). Add-ons have no annual discount — a yearly add-on is exactly 12 × the monthly price.
How Billing Works
- Choose monthly or annual billing (annual = 20% off base plans)
- Your card is charged automatically on your renewal date each cycle
- Monthly message quotas reset on the 1st of each calendar month, independent of your billing date
- You are charged only the prorated difference for the rest of your current cycle — never the full new price
- The unused time on your old plan is credited against the charge
- Your renewal date stays the same; from the next renewal you pay the new plan's full price
- New limits apply immediately
All payments are processed by our payment provider. Manage your card, invoices, and cancellation anytime from Settings → Billing → Open Billing Portal.
Add-Ons
Add-ons are optional extras attached to your subscription. They are billed on your plan's renewal date, and their billing interval always matches your base plan (a yearly plan bills add-ons yearly). There is no annual discount on add-ons — a yearly add-on is exactly 12 × the monthly price.
- A one-time pack of 2,000 messages charged instantly to your card on file
- Used automatically after your monthly plan quota runs out — your agents never stop mid-conversation
- Packs expire at your next renewal date — unused messages are not carried over into the next cycle
- Auto-recharge: optionally turn on automatic top-ups. When your balance falls below a threshold you choose (in messages), we automatically charge $35 for another 2,000 messages so service is never interrupted
- Measured the same way as the plan quota: 1 visitor question + 1 agent reply = 2 messages
- Add extra agents to any plan — the add-on raises your workspace's agent limit immediately
- Adding an agent mid-cycle charges only the prorated remainder of the cycle (same fair math as plan upgrades)
- Removing an agent takes effect immediately with no partial refund; your next renewal simply bills the lower quantity
- Like all limits, extra agents apply workspace-wide — new agent slots can be used by any of your configurations
- Hides the "Powered by Domainchat" badge from the chat widget and iframe of every agent in your workspace — one flat rate regardless of how many agents you run
- Takes effect immediately on purchase
- Renews automatically with your subscription; if the subscription lapses, branding returns automatically
Add-ons require an active paid plan (your card lives on the subscription). Purchase and manage them in Settings → Billing → Add-ons.
Renewal & Expiry
- At each renewal your card is charged the base plan price plus any active add-ons, and your monthly message quota resets
- Purchased message packs expire at the renewal date — they are not carried over (buy packs when you need them, or enable auto-recharge)
- If you cancel, service continues until the end of the paid cycle, then the workspace moves to the Free plan
- When a paid plan ends (cancellation or downgrade), add-on entitlements end with it: extra agent slots are released and the "Powered by Domainchat" branding returns on all widgets
Payment Failure & Grace Period
When a renewal payment fails, your account enters a 5-day grace period. During this time:
- Your AI agents continue to work for visitors
- You receive a 5% total message cap of your monthly limit for the entire grace period (not per day)
- Your payment provider automatically retries the charge (you don't need to do anything unless the card expires)
- An email alert is sent to all workspace owners
If payment is not recovered after 5 days:
- Your account automatically reverts to the Free plan
- All data is preserved — no agents, knowledge, conversations, or settings are deleted
- Your subscription status becomes EXPIRED
- Add-ons end: extra agent slots are released, remaining message packs are cleared, and the "Powered by Domainchat" branding returns on all widgets
- Only the oldest agent remains active; others are suspended
- If your storage exceeds 1 MB, you can still browse existing knowledge but cannot add more
Impact on Multiple Agents
The Free plan supports only 1 AI Agent. If you had multiple agents on a paid plan and your account is reverted to Free:
- The first-created (oldest) agent remains active and continues responding to visitors
- All other agents are suspended — they display the message: "This AI Agent is currently unavailable. If you are the owner, please check your account."
- Suspended agents do not consume any message quota
- All knowledge sources, conversations, and configurations are preserved
Storage on Free Plan
The Free plan includes 1 MB of storage. If your account is downgraded and your existing knowledge exceeds 1 MB:
- Existing knowledge sources remain intact and searchable by your active agent
- You cannot add new files, URLs, text, or Q&A pairs — the system will block ingestion
- If you delete existing sources, you free up space and can add new ones again
- Upgrading back to a paid plan immediately restores your full storage capacity
Restoring Your Paid Plan
If your payment method is updated and the charge succeeds (even after a downgrade), your account is automatically restored:
- Your original plan tier is restored (all quotas resume)
- All previously suspended agents are reactivated
- Storage limits are restored — you can ingest new knowledge again
- Grace period counters are reset
To manually restore, go to your workspace dashboard and select a plan. If your subscription is still active with your payment provider, updating the billing method in the billing portal is usually enough.
Billing FAQ
If I upgrade in the middle of the month, do I pay the full new price?
No. You are charged only the prorated difference for the remaining days of your current cycle — the unused time on your old plan is credited. Your renewal date stays the same, and the full new price starts at your next renewal.
Do unused message packs carry over to the next month?
No — packs expire at your next renewal date. This keeps pricing simple: buy a pack when you need extra volume, or enable auto-recharge so a fresh pack is purchased automatically whenever your balance runs low.
Is the branding removal per agent?
No — it's one flat rate ($49/mo) for your entire workspace and covers every agent you create, present and future.
Can I use add-ons with annual billing?
Yes — add-ons always follow your base plan's interval. On an annual plan, an extra agent is billed $300/year and branding removal $588/year (12 × the monthly price, no annual discount on add-ons).
How exactly are messages counted?
Each message sent or received counts as 1 message: a visitor asking a question uses 1, and your agent's reply uses another. A full question-and-answer exchange therefore uses 2 messages. This measurement applies uniformly to plan quotas and purchased packs.
